Probyn's diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiac problems did not spoil his zest for life, and he always heeded the advice of his doctors and maintained a healthy and very active lifestyle. Unfortunately, he developed an aggressive form of prostate cancer which did not respond to the treatments he had over a period of four years. Prostate cancer is very prevalent in black men, and Jamaica has the highest death rate in the world for prostate cancer.
